Expenses

Log what you paid and who it covered. The balances do the rest.

Group trips generate a mess of who-paid-for-what that nobody wants to reconstruct afterwards. Expenses keeps a running balance per person, per currency, so settling up at the end is a single number each rather than an evening with a spreadsheet.

Split across the people it actually covered

Not every cost is shared by everyone. Two people hiring sleeping bags is not a three-way split, and pretending otherwise is how these things go wrong.

Pick who paid and tick who it was for. Balances update immediately, showing who is up and who is down.

  • Choose the participants per expense.
  • Anyone on the trip can log one, not just the organiser.
  • Running balance per person, always visible.

Currencies stay separate on purpose

A trip that spends pounds and euros gets two balances, not one converted total. Converting means picking a rate, and picking a rate means someone is quietly disadvantaged by a decision the app made for them.

Keeping them apart is less clever and considerably less arguable.

  • One balance per currency.
  • No automatic conversion, by design.
  • Hidden from the public page unless you deliberately show it.

Good to know

  • Splits are even across the selected people. There are no percentage or share-weighted splits.
  • There is no settle-up ledger β€” balances tell you who owes what, but paying it back happens outside the app.
  • Expenses are not linked to accommodation or transport costs; those are recorded separately.
